“Last night, I dreamed that I was in a tower, climbing the stairs. I also vividly remember it being night time, with there being two distinct purple lines of light that were heading upwards toward the sky. Those are the only parts of the dream that I can remember but they seem important for some reason.” (K.)
The tower. Formidable, protective. Cloistered off from the rest of society in a high tower, its inhabitants feel somehow special, hermetic. Merlin the wizard studied in a tower. On the other hand, the tower can be isolating in a negative way. Rupunzel and many other damsels in distress were imprisoned in towers. And let’s not forget that those in high places have a longer drop when the tower comes crashing down. (See Bellaonline’s “Dream Symbols Tower”)
For these reasons, it is difficult to provide an accurate dream interpretation without other contextual clues. What are the other dream elements? Images? Accompanying feelings? Although this dream was “lite” on details, there were enough to see what is going on in this dreamer’s subconscious world.
The Dream Symbols
Tower. A tower can be a fortress or a place of higher learning. In context with the rest of the dream symbols, it is more likely the latter.
Climbing stairs. Ascending stairs can symbolize a difficult journey but again the contextual symbols in this dream do not indicate difficulty but seeking “higher” ground.
Night. A time of darkness. The rest of the world is asleep or unenlightened.
Two. Two is a number of balance, completion, yin yang.
Purple. The color purple can symbolize different meanings but in this dream, it is referring to higher wisdom, intuition or spiritual knowledge.
Beams of light. Light also refers to spiritual enlightenment, guidance.
Upwards into the sky. The light was projecting into the sky versus coming down from above.
Drawing upon the above inferences along with intuitive insight, I explained to this dreamer that this seemed to be a very positive dream. It indicates that the dreamer is or will be seeking higher spiritual knowledge. The two purple beams of light symbolize that the insights will be balanced and reasonable. It’s interesting that this dreamer reported that the beams of light were “going upwards into the sky” rather than beaming down from the heavens which is the way that we typically believe we receive higher knowledge. For this reason, I infer that the dreamer might unintentionally project her own ideas onto what she perceives is “right” or “real” as in the universal consciousness or God.
I encourage this dreamer to continue her seeking spiritual knowledge for as she seeks, she shall find. Being open-minded will be important for her so newfound information should come from more than a single source. Be sure to keep focused on higher principles (good intentions). And while she naturally will project or see the wisdom gained from earthly sources (books, people) as the wisdom of the universe, she should place herself in receiving mode often to be open to the flow of cosmic knowledge from higher sources. Begin a regular practice of meditation if she hasn't already. Journal the impressions received during both meditation and dreams.
Journey on, sweet dreamer.
