Here is my list of the best tall perennial plants that will add height and interest to your English Garden. You can plant them traditionally towards the back of the border in groups of three or five or add to the middle of the border to create a more natural/cottagey effect.
- Foxgloves – in pinks, mauves and white - they can grow up to 50 inches or 1.27m
- Lupins – are available in a good range of colors from pale yellow through orange to subtle pinks and bright purple – growing approx 36 to 42 inches or 91cm to just over a metre .
- Verbena bonariensis – pink/purple – can reach 6 ft or 1.8m
- Dicentra spectabilis –Bleeding Hearts - red/pink and white - approx 2ft or 60 cm
- Delphiniums – gorgeous blues and purples and paler colors - these are available in heights from 3 to 5ft or 91cm to 1.5m
- Kniphodia – red hot pokers - vibrant reds and oranges to pale green and yellows – 48 inches or 1.2m
- Achillea millefolium or Yarrow - is very easy to grow - comes in white, cream, yellows and reds - grow to approx 2ft or 60cm
- Phlox paniculata or garden phlox - a lovely scented plant in pink, white and purple hues - 2 to 3ft or 60 to 90 cm
- Lilium regale or Regal Lily - very heavily scented - white - nearly 5ft or 150cm.
