After a bitter split with his Police bandmates Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland, Sting eventually agreed to a reunion of the band that began in 1977. After splitting in 1984, The Police performed three charity concerts together in 1986. The next reunion of the band wouldn't happen until 2007 when all three members agreed to mark the band's 30th anniversary with an unexpected reunion at that year's Grammy Awards. A full-fledged reunion tour started later in the year. The tour continued into 2008 and included shows in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

While demand for the band's reunion dates was high, Sting recently revealed that he didn't feel any particular spark of energy during the tour and that he will not consider another reunion of the band. Sting, now 58, didn't find the tour inspirational and the band didn't write any new songs for it. While he recognized the excitement of the fans, he doesn't intend to hold any more reunion shows with his former bandmates or to collaborate with them on any new music. He called the tour "purely an exercise in nostalgia," according to ContactMusic.

While fans won't get any new music from The Police, the band does leave behind five albums, countless music video, concert videos, one documentary and three autobiographies. The Police Documentary was shot by Stewart Copeland during the band's late 70s/early-80s stratospheric popularity. Sting's Autobiography was released in 2008.
