Half-Blood Prince : Chapter 2

In Chapter 2 of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, we find two cloaked figures popping out of the clear air. They land on a river bank. Hoods hide their faces. One figure is determined to reach its destination. The other is just as determined to stop the other.

The formerly silent figures reveal their identity in conversation. They are the sisters, Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange. Narcissa is determined to meet someone Bellatrix does not trust. She is so determined. Narcisssa almost uses her wand on her sister. She travels in a decrepit part of town. Her destination is on Spinner’s End road.

Narcissa Malfoy knocks on a door, and Severus Snape answers the knock. She asks for entrance and gains it. Bellatrix enters the house with her sister.

It is quite apparent Severus and Bellatrix despises each other. His lips curl at the sight of her. She stares back in anger.

A hidden staircase reveals Wormtail. Wormtail was sent by the Dark Lord to reside with Snape. Snape requests Wormtail to serve drinks to him and the sisters. An argument ensues, but Wormtail does serve the three. Snape uses his wand to stop Wormtail from overhearing their conversation through a keyhole.

Wormtail gone, Bellatrix Lestrange starts to question Snape’s loyalty to the Dark Lord. Snape counter by saying who is she to doubt his loyalty when the Dark Lord does not. The two of them continue to argue until Narcissa quiets them.

The reason for Narcissa’s visit is revealed. She wants Snape’s aid in keeping her only son, Draco, safe. Bellatrix is reluctant to place her nephew’s safety in the hands of a man she distrusts. Moreover, she does not believe Snape cares for others, just himself.

Severus Snape agrees to look after Draco. He agrees to make the Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa. Bellatrix’s mouth drops open. Snape anoints Bellatrix as the Bonder. An astounded Bellatrix, using her wand, performs her duty.

Do you want to know if Severus Snape keeps the Unbreakable Vow? Is Bellatrix Lestrange right not to trust Snape? Will Narcissa Malfoy’s darling son, Draco, survive? Read Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for the answers.
