If you currently live in New York City or will be visiting in the future and you would like to connect to the Internet, you are in luck! New York City and AT&T have been working on an initiative that would make over 26 locations throughout 20 different New York City parks available for free wi-fi access. So far 10 parks have been set up. Their locations are:

• Bronx – Joyce Kilmer Park, north-end playground
• Brooklyn – McCarren Park, around the field house (just added this month) and Herbert Von King Park, in the amphitheater area (just added this month)
• Staten Island – Clove Lakes Park, around the ball fields (just added this month)
• Queens – Astoria Park, in the track area (just added this month)
• Manhattan – Battery Park, the ferry landing, Thomas Jefferson Park, around the recreation center, Central Park (only available from June to early September), at the Rumsey Playground and in Tompkins Square Park, around the field house (just added this month).

The planned rollout of free wi-fi in New York City parks will run over the course of 5 years. Future locations include the Bronx River Park, Devoe Park, additional Central Park locations, Marcus Garvey Park, The High Line, Holcombe Rucker Park, Prospect Park, Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, MacDonald Park and South Beach in Franklin D. Roosevelt Boardwalk and Beach.

This is a great way to enjoy the nice weather and surf the web. On the warmer days, you can enjoy the scenery and environment of the park. On cooler days, you can still retreat to your favorite coffee shop.

To access the free wi-fi, just select the “attwifi” from the list of access points. No user id or password is required to connect. Keep in mind, free wi-fi is great for more than just your laptop these days. You can take your wi-fi enabled tablet or IPad and use it to surf the web as well. Even if you already subscribe to a data plan, if that data plan is not unlimited, you can save some minutes by using the City’s free wifi.
