Dealing with very long hair is often scary to hairdressers who are faced with creating a wedding or prom updo. Visions of their beautiful style falling down in the middle of the ceremony or during lively dance can strike fear into anyone's heart. You may even have been told that your hair is too long for an updo. However, in most cases, it can be done as long as each part of the updo is firmly pinned into place and controlled.
If your hair is long or heavy, try using two or three small pony tails.
Tease each one slightly for control. Smooth each pony tail into a roll. Tuck the ends inside the roll and fan it out to be as wide as you like it or as can be done while still maintaining its thickness. Secure each roll with a bobby pin or two inserted into each side and into the middle. Make sure these bobby pins are hidden from view.
Hair that is shorter or layered it may also be combed into soft curls at the back of your head. You may use the pony tail method or just back combing and bobby pins.
Back-combing and hairspray may be needed to support the weight of a veil. Without adequate support, the veil may pull down and collapse the hairstyle during the ceremony. Make sure to have a trial run to make sure the style and veil will stay in place.
