Terra Nova

Guns, time travel, adventure, and, best of all, dinosaurs, what more could a girl ask for? Well not much. There are even cute guys and gals to appeal to the most discriminating eye. So how will this million dollars in special effects per episode keep your attention? So far it is looking like the story may be stronger than first thought. While the initial pilot may have taken a few wrong turns, it is nothing that cannot be fixed in the coming episodes.

We as humans have destroyed our planet, wait did Al Gore produce this? Terra Nova is set in the future, well kind of. The pilot opens in the future where the sun does not shine, humans have to wear oxygen filtering masks to go outside, and you are only allowed one of each gendered child per family. So in a desperate attempt to save the human race, society decides to send groups of people back in time to start over. Making the adjustment for the time travelers is interesting. They are forced to eat real fruits and vegetables and drink real milk. They also must adjust to the neighboring herbivores who love to munch on the foliage on the outskirts of Terra Nova.

Sounds like the live action version of the Flintstones right? Well now we throw in some curves, like the Sixers. Yes, that is what they are called, the Sixers. I prefer to call them the Tailies and for anyone who does not understand the ‘Lost’ reference, the Tailies were introduced in the second season as the group of survivors who were in the tail of the plain. The Sixers are explained as a rebel group of colonists from the sixth group of humans sent to Terra Nova.
They are passed off as a violent faction and an enemy of Terra Nova, but we all know there is more to that story. Another branch of the plot comes when the teens of the Terra Nova –yes the teens—find ancient writing on the rocks by a waterfall they go cliff diving on.

So you have couple branches to grow off of. The central cast is a family of five, the doctor mother, cop father, and three kids with ranging ages. The leader of Terra Nova is the typical alpha male, loud bark, big guns, and bigger attitude. I am not sure what is going on in Terra Nova, except for the special effects and a lot of unresolved questions. It does have a chance if they can build up the following and keep the story strong. The pilot, as it is set right now, is rather flimsy. It is all going to depend on where they take it. This is the reason for the three episode test. How will Terra Nova hold up?
