Ok....I'm feeling like OPRAH and how excited she is to share some of her favorite things so here are a few of mine that I hope you will either already use or will fall in love with just as much as I have.
Makeup: I discovered SACHA Cosmetics about a year & ˝ ago. As a woman of color, I was not finding shades that matched my medium to medium-dark skin tone in the local drug stores so I went online and found this wonderful company. Their foundations are to die for! And their camouflage/concealer foundation works great in covering up blemishes and discoloration.
Their line of lip gloss is great as well, providing nice color & a sparkly shine that I particularly love (something about sparkles brings out the girly-girl in me!).
I also recommend Sacha because they are one of the only cosmetic companies specializing of make-up for women of color that offers SAMPLES. Customers can order samples of the foundations. According to the website, consider the following when choosing a foundation for your skin type:
Cream Foundation: for normal to dry skin.
Cream to Powder Foundation: for all skin types.
Camouflage Foundation: to conceal serious skin blemishes.
Liquid Foundation: lighter coverage for normal to oily skin
Each TESTER KIT is priced as low as $2 + shipping. This low price is a great way to test out the product without committing to the full product, in the event you don’t like it (which I’m sure you will only RAVE about the product). These sample/tester kits also cover a range in colors in ONE tester! I find myself at times blending several shades to make the perfect match on my skin (depending on if I’ve been in the sun and got myself a little tan) but for the most part, I am finding one shade that does the trick & does it well!
Hair: There are a ton of hair straighteners/flat irons out on the market and I have tried several for myself and my daughters but none really seemed to do THE trick until I saw something on a shopping channel the day after Xmas 2004 that I fell in love with just from the demonstrations on the TV. It was a product called the "MAXIglide by Maxius". This product is amazing! It has a patented feature that allows you to release a burst of steam on your hair to help smooth out tough/dry ends, much like a steam iron would on a tough wrinkle. This product is more than a flat-iron….it detangles as it gets your hair straight. It leaves hair shiny and health looking, without BURNING your hair. I can’t rave enough about it! This works great on ALL hair types and ethnicities. See real-life example below:
