As discussed in another articles, Compassion and Martial Arts, training in the arts is not just about kicks and punches. It's also about learning how to live life better. This last week, we are reminded about how quickly life can be changed forever. Here in the United States, we have seen the power and devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The storm may have blown by and is now no more, but the damage will continue and the pain will not leave quickly.
As members of the world and community, we have the opportunity to help. Many organizations, like the Red Cross are asking for help in terms of donations. You may be one, but never forget in your training you are many.
A fellow Sifu of mine made a general call out to us over email and I think it is most appropriate. She asked that those who are of a school, consider banning together and try to collect money to donate to these organizations. Not only is this a great way to pull your students together and understand the impact of this great storm, but it also is going to help a lot of people. This particular Sifu is talking about asking some of her child students to work together and collect from local businesses near their school.
So for everyone out there who is part of a school or owns a school, consider what you might be able to do help. Even if what you raise is but a small amount, every little bit helps. And as I mentioned in another article, compassion is an important part of training.
