Have you ever heard of the musical genre “Organica?” If this doesn’t sound familiar to you, it’s because pop/adult contemporary recording artist Margo Rey has coined the term as her own. With her pulsating energy and unique style, Margo has quickly attracted many fans to her soothing vocals and intoxicating music.
Born in Acapulco, Mexico, Margo Rey received a professional foundation of classical music training to propel her into a career within the music industry. After starting in a rock band at the age of 16, Margo also sang in a pop group before narrowing her focus mostly to jazz. After years of fronting a Latin/Jazz R&B sextet, being signed to an indie label where she recorded a Tejano/Pop Spanish album, and acting on Broadway, Margo was most recently signed onto Organica Music Group. With a sound comparable to Norah Jones, Kelly Clarkson, and Leona Lewis, Margo Rey is definitely on the right path to making her music industry dreams come true.
After producing a collection of songs that create and evoke multiple emotions such as greed, love, lust, doubt, remorse, obsession, and crazed vulnerability, Margo Rey released her highly anticipated album titled Habit through Organica Music Group on July 10, 2012. The album features the hit songs “Between Us” – which became a Top 20 charting single, and “Let the Rain,” a song that was co-written by music legend John Oates, and was inspired by the challenging times that people go through while growing up. The “rain” is used as a metaphor for washing yourself clean of those moments and allowing you to feel alive.
An interesting aspect about Habit and Margo Rey as a recording artist is that she wanted to create something that was “lo-fi” versus what she calls the cloned versions of today’s other pop music recordings. Finding a singer/song writer/musician who cares more about what they sound like as an artist instead of simply what technology and equipment their songs were recorded with is rare in the pop industry environment of today’s culture.
