Lantau Island is the largest outlying island in Hong Kong, China. It is twice the size of Hong Kong Island. While Hong Kong Island is highly developed, half of Lantau Island is park area.

The park area consists of lush green valleys and mountains. There is a peaceful aura over the place. The bustle of city life is faraway. This is where natives and visitors go for hikes and camping. Walk up a mountain trail, stop and view the sea. Watch the boats ply the waters.

The Hong Kong International Airport is located on the far side of the island. The airport is where most visitors enter Hong Kong, China. Hong Kong Disneyland is 20 minutes from the airport.

Also, Lantau Island is the home of the Big Buddha and Lin Po Monastery and other monasteries. The Big Buddha is the largest, bronze seated one in the world. In close proximity to the Lin Po Monastery is the Wisdom Path.

Lantau Island is a favorite destination for seafood lovers. The sea is a source of a great variety of fish. Of course, the island's chefs will love to prepare the seafood dish of your choice. For the vegetarian, Lin Po Monastery serves snacks and meals.

Take time to visit Lantau Island. It is a great place to spend a weekend. Yet, it is less crowded during the week. If you are seeking peace and solitude, go to the park side. If you want crowds, Hong Kong Disneyland is the place. Wherever you go just enjoy yourself.
