Vitamin Angel Alliance - Human Rights

Vitamin Angel Alliance is a humanitarian agency with the primary goal of delivering nutritional aid in the form of vitamins to countries where malnutrition is a serious problem.

Operation 2020

Vitamin A deficiency is one of the causes of childhood blindness. One of the Vitamin Angel Alliance's programs is "Operation 20/20." Operation 2020's ambitious goal is to eradicate childhood blindness associated with vitaming A deficiency by the year 2020. Vitamin A is distributed to at risk children along with antiparasitics because parasites thrive on Vitamin A. The costs associated with the program are extremely inexpensive with the average cost of saving the sight of a child being only $1.00.

Disaster Relief

Vitamin Angels function in various capacities. Although Operation 2020 is one of their primary programs, Vitamin Angels are also instrumental in providing disaster relief to areas when and where it is most needed.

Vitamin Angels operate worldwide - including in the United States. For example, when Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast, Vitamin Angels were at ground zero within days of the disaster. Vitamin Angels worked in conjunction with local pharmaceutical and supplement companies to get vitamins to those who were in need of nutritional supplements. Vitamin Angels stayed on the ground assisting residents in the reclamation of their lives, providing support throughout the region. Vitamin Angels stayed in the region not only throughout the aftermath of Katrina, but also in the wake of Rita.

Vitamin Angels has also been instrumental in providing support and aid to other disaster zones. For example, Vitamin Angels mobilized immediately following the Indonesian tsunamis to provide supplements to those in that region. Why? By providing nutritional supplements to the area and getting those supplements to those in need, disease and infection could be reduced in areas where people's immune systems were already compromised due to increased risk and lack of nutrition.
