Fish Keepers in the movies -

See the movie “Thief”. It’s a classic film noir film set in relatively modern times. It features James Caan as you’ve never seen him before in his pre “Las Vegas” (t.v. series) days.

As a man in love trying to go straight and do just one last safecracker job to take care of his wife and child - he finds himself being threatened by the mob boss who hired him to continue working for him and breaking into bank safes and stealing diamonds for him. See the movie to see how this all turns out - the ending will keep you on the edge of your seat and then surprise you!

The only good thing this mob boss in the movie did right is his fish tank! This may have been considered a primo fish tank in that year of 1980. It was up until the 1980’s that home aquarium systems remained about the same. So, for its time it was great. The fish are swimming around happily and healthily and the approximately 20 gallon tank looks completely equipped.

Although, there was a time when it was the independently wealthy who could enjoy the hobby of fish keeping at home except for those who were lucky enough to have a gold fish bowl; by the 1960’s, fish tanks became more waterproof and we started with the acrylic tanks. Then, through the 1980’s there were advances in filtration systems for home fish tanks and a more thorough understanding of how to maintain a balanced environment in the home aquarium.

So, in addition to the fact that equipment wears out and can become weakened over time, it’s good to keep current on reading about maintaining your aquarium and taking care of your fish in order to keep up with the best possible improvements in fish tanks and equipment and fish care.

If you’ve had the same aquarium since the 1980’s, it’s a safe bet to say it’s time to replace everything for the safety and health of your fish!

One thing remains the same, though, this movie is still a great watch!
