On this sophomore release from the artist who brought us the hit "Supermodels" which was used on the WB's TV show "Popular", Kendall runs with the theme of starting over and finding out who you really are and learning that you're "grown" at last. Opening with the haunting "Scratch" Kendall sings of the wish to start over from scratch. She pours out her thoughts of longing to be young again and asks God if he would "be open to starting over from scratch" something that I'm sure all of us would like to do from time to time. Next she moves on to the up-tempo tune Rollercoaster. With the hearty strumming of her guitar she uses her rock flavored voice to sing about the excitement of loving God. The quirky "Ups and Downs" with its encouragement to live life to the fullest with all its ups and downs is a fresh tune. In fact all of the songs on this recording reflect a sentiment of learning and growing from life. Kendall was at the top of the music game when she released her debut album but it all came to a halt when there was a regime change at Capitol Records, her former label and she was released. At that point she had to do some soul searching and learn to start from "scratch". Good for us that she did just that and I must say that this is a great project to start over from indeed. Old Hymns Made New Scott Wesley Brown *
Part of the New Worship Hymn Series, this recording delivers a spirit filled worship project. Scott's pure and smooth voice brings a quality to each tune and gives freshness to all of the familiar standards. Opening with "Praise to the Lord the Almighty" (He's Worthy of Honor) Scott's voice highlights this tune richly. He sings with a quality of humbleness and richness that is refreshing. His voice soars on the standard "Come Christians Join to Sing" every Amen that he sings is filled with passion and you are moved into full worship with ease. The beautiful ballad "For the Beauty of the Earth" with its acoustic guitar paints an awesome picture of God and his power in creating the beauty of this earth. Other notable tracks are "All Hail the Power" and "Thy God Reigned" both great updated tunes. Thank goodness Scott decided to bring in the old and make it new for a new generation. Reggae Sunday SchoolChristafari*
Listen up all you Sunday School teachers! Time for the children to put on their island attire and get their Caribbean praise grove on! Christafari delivers a fun and happy way of passing on knowledge for kids all over the world with their new project "Reggae Sunday School". Opening with "The Reggae ABC's" featuring Red Cloud and Richie Righteous, this tune spins out the ABC's in a new and funky way. This is not the way grandma taught you to sing them oh no, but it's a great way to learn them and I know that kids will get a kick out of this tune. Next it moves to the festive Higher Higher which makes any kid want to dance for sure. Throughout the CD there are interludes where children meet the teachers of the Reggae Sunday school and travel to mythical islands "Yeahman" and "Noman" all the while learning bible verses and stories that have been Sunday school staples for years. This is all done in a way that engages the children with all types of music from the islands. Yes there is Reggae on this recording but there is also dancehall, calypso, soca, hip-hop and all types of good music on this project. For 16 years Christafari has brought us good music and although this is a new concept for them, gearing a project towards children, they have succeeded in giving us another great recording. There is also an interactive website for this project! That's right you can log onto wwwReggaeSundaySchool.com and take Sunday school to another level! Enjoy!
