New Artist Review

The Soul SeekersThe Soul Seekers

Don't let the title of this project fool you, the members of this group have soul and plenty of it! However if the title reflects what I'm thinking, that they are out to save a lot of souls, then they can surely do that with this recording. Made up from a "Whose Who" of producers and musicians the eight men who call themselves The Soul Seekers; Warryn Campbell, Gerald Haddon, John "Jubu" Smith, Teddy Campbell, Craig Brockman, Eric Seats, Charlie Bereal and Nisan Stewart have served up a plate full of spiritual "soul food" music that will make us all want seconds. Pulling from their collective talents, the group, who has worked with the likes of Mary Mary, Brandy, Brittney and Whitney (no last names needed) offer a spirit filled recording that reflects the traditional style of quartets past with a fresh delivery. Recorded live at Emmanuel Temple in Los Angeles with all original songs, they get things started off right with the funky, foot-stompin' groove "I'll Take Jesus". Lead vocalist Teddy Campbell powerfully sings of the richness we find in Jesus rather than the trappings of this world. Rich harmony shines on the ballad "What Would You Do" which pensively asks the question what we would do if God gave up on us. Thank God we will never have to find out for He is with us always, but this is something to think about. Other honorable mentions are "Make a Way" which reminds me of the Mighty Clouds of Joy, the testimonial "I've Got It" and "What Took You So Long" the song that questions why someone would take so long to know Jesus. Well all I have to say is don't take long to get this CD! Check it out at www.gospocentric.com

The minute you slide this CD into your player you know you are in for a smooth riding groove. Flowing with ease the first track "Bring in the Noise" calls for "S-A-I-N-T-S" to step out and show who they are to the masses. Full of R&B flavor, this track encourages a full display of God's words in the lives and actions of those who profess to love Him. The project is full of diversity and the group moves easily between an R&B, Pop and Hip-Hop sound. Hip-Hop and pulse driving beats are on full display with "Church Time in the South" which paints a great portrait of a holy-ghost time at church in the south. Something these PK's (Preacher's Kids) from the ATL should know all about. Acoustic sounds and a pop-filled melody define "Don't Walk Away" which pleads for listeners to hold on and soon everything will be okay with the help of God. The beautiful and moving ballad "Always Here with Me" allows the harmonizing vocals of the group to take center stage. Knowing that a part of someone is always with us can be such a heart warming experience and A7 sings of this with a wonderful passion and talent. A great debut full of wonderful messages is this self-title package. Learn more about this group at www.a7music.net

Pastor Jones and the RITW WorshipersPastor Jones and the RITW Worshipers

Pastor Jones and the RITW Worshipers have staked a claim to "change the way the world views gospel music" and this project may do just that. No stranger to the music scene, Pastor Jones is a former P.Diddy protégé and VP of A&R for Def Jam, but like another Diddy associate Mase, he became saved and has now decided to pursue music for God. Gathering a group of talented young people, whose ages range from 16-22 years, Pastor Jones and the group set out to deliever something new for gospel music. Opening with a bass bumping, record scratching, hip-hop fused track "Intro" which states the group's mission to introduce us to Jesus. Next it moves to the free flowing happy track "Ain't No Halfsteppin'" that tells us to trust God and go all the way in our destiny. The soulful "Yes I Can" is an anthem that powerfully proclaims victory in believing that you can do all things with Christ. The project can also move to cerebrel breezes with tracks like "Makes Me Love You" featuring Debra Killings and "Take A Way" with Montel Jordan. The latter I listened to a couple of times because it was just that smooth! A standout on the recording is the soul stirring ballad "Buried in Me" which calls on God to help us release the gift that he has "buried" in all of us. Thank goodness Pastor Jones has decided to "let go" the gift that was buried in him and follow the path to change the way the world views gospel. What a great gift for us all.
