Candyland - A Great Game for Young Kids

Who hasn't played Candyland? For many kids, this might have been their first board game they ever played. The rules are simple, so that younger kids can get in on the fun experience of playing board games.

Candyland is set in a fictitious town of Candyland that is made up of sweets. Some have wondered if this is the best setting for a game with the rising rate of obesity in children.

I'm not sure I can agree with that leap that playing the Candyland board game will make children more apt to eat more sweets. Candyland is a game for the very young. One fact I've learned is that very young children tend to eat until they are full. Overeating is something that is learned. So, even if a child wants candy because they saw it on a board game, we can't really blame a board game on the obesity problem in America.

Candyland fuels the imagination with it's colorful setting and interesting characters. Kids can immerse themselves in a fun world. Candyland comes featuring many franchise characters like Dora and Winnie the Pooh, which can increase the fun for kids.

Some will also say that since the game is incredibly simple, it doesn't teach our children anything. For very young children, there might not be that much of a learning experience with this game, but sometimes it's okay to play a game just for the sake of playing.

There are some learning possibilities. Kids do have to match colors to move their playing piece around the board. You could add to the rules by making kids count the spaces they have to move. Candyland is for children 3 and up. Imagine the joy on a three-year-old's face to be able to play a board game with little to no assistance from anyone. This is the true learning experience of Candyland - an introduction to the fun possibilities of playing a board game.
