November appears to be the month that takes a hard look at devastating illnesses; diabetes, epilepsy, lung cancer, Alzheimer’s disease. There is no better time to create awareness than November when so many of us gather with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving.

Epilepsy Awareness Month. Nov. 1–30. To increase public awareness that despite dramatic gains in treatment, epilepsy is a serious and chronic health condition for which there is no cure. For more information, browse www.epilepsyfoundation.org.

Family Stories Month. Nov. 1–30. November starts out with crisper weather and ends with the gathering of family and friends around the table, which makes it the perfect month to start telling and saving family stories. For more information, browse www.scrapbookstorytelling.com.

Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Nov. 1–30. To increase awareness of the need for screening, early detection, research and compassion for lung cancer survivors. For more information browse www.alcase.org.

National Alzheimer’s Disease Month. Nov. 1–30. To increase awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and what the Alzheimer’s Association is doing to advance research and help patients, their families and their caregivers. For more information, browse www.alz.org.

Kids’ Goal Setting Week. Nov. 7–11. To foster goal setting habits in children’s lives so that they can make their dreams come true. For more information, browse www.goalsguy.com.

Pursuit of Happiness Week. Nov. 8–14. Veterans Day. Nov. 11. Formerly called Armistice Day.

Thanksgiving Day. Nov. 24.
