Method line of cleaners

Cleaning products shouldn’t increase your allergy symptoms. That’s why I started using Method’s line of household cleaners and soaps which are easy on my allergies. I don’t have to worry about filling my lungs with chemicals when I use the non-toxic, biodegradable products, which are good for the environment too.

I’ve been hooked on the cleaning products since my son surprised me with a gift basket, filled with Method’s shower, window and all-purpose cleaners, liquid hand and dishwashing soaps, and furniture polish. The gift was my son’s apology for causing me to have an allergy attack when he sprayed a heavily-perfumed fabric freshener on our couch.

I was sold immediately on the liquid soaps which come in fragrances like cucumber, holly berry, ginger, lavender and peppermint vanilla. They don’t smell 100 percent natural but they are definitely easy on the senses. The hand soaps, like the other Method products, come in attractive, decorative containers that can, in some cases, be refilled.

I was a little more skeptical about the daily shower cleaner because I have tried products like this before and been disappointed by the results. The Method shower cleaner is used much the same way as other shower sprays. You spray it onto the wet, rinsed walls and shower curtain or door after each shower.

It works best if you start with a clean shower. After all, it doesn’t perform miracles. I was surprised by how well the product kept my shower stall clean, and free of mildew and soap scum. A monthly thorough scrubbing is still required. I purchased a refill bottle of the product and still have some after six months.

The best part was the absence of a harsh, chemical smell when applying the cleaner. The cleaner is scented with yiang-yiang, an Indonesian fragrance that is almost fragrance-free. The ingredients listed on the bottle are naturally-derived surfactant, soap scum dissolver, corrosion protectant, performance builder and essential oil fragrance.

I haven’t been as impressed by the window cleaner which, in my experience, leaves mirrors and glass filmy and streaked. My husband called the product “useless” when he tried using it to clean a glass light fixture. Method also sells micro-fiber cleaning clothes which seem to improve the results with the glass cleaner.

The dishwashing liquid is the only product in the line I’ve stopped using. The fragrances are pleasant but it’s definitely not sudsy. You end up using more of the product to wash your dishes.

You can purchase Method products at Target, Office Depot, Albertson’s, Amazon.com, Costco, Lowe’s or methodhome.com. They are priced from $2.99 and up.
