Moving House the New Age Way - Moving In

How can you move and yet feel right at home straight away? Here are some energy techniques that will help you let go of your old place and settle quickly and comfortably into your new abode.

Once you have found your new home spend time visualising yourself in it, living there with your family, your pets, your favourite things. By seeing yourself happy and contented in the place before you move you set up a positive vibration around it.

If you have floor plans of your new place you can look at the feng shui of the layout. I noticed by Black Hat Sect feng shui that I was missing the wealth corner again in my new house. I will make sure that I bring the missing area energetically into the main body of the house by placing lighting, a seating area and plants in the courtyard.

When it gets close to the time to leave your old home stand in the centre of the house, or in a spot where you feel you can connect with your home and prepare to gather the happy memories of your life there to you. Stand with your arms open, your palms out before you, and intend that all the positive memories you have had there will be drawn into your heart. You will probably feel some warmth at your heart centre as you do this. When you feel the process is complete place your palms over your heart centre and intend you will keep those memories safe in your heart until you are ready to ‘unpack’ them in your new home.

Just as most people like to leave their old home clean for the new occupants it is good ‘spiritual hygiene’ to space clear your old home when you leave. When I left my old place I was pushed for time & couldn’t complete a full space clearing ceremony. Instead I visualised a fine golden net of light at floor level room by room. I watched it rise and as it did so it caught up any stagnant energies and lifted them through the roof to the heavens where they were transmuted into light. I found this was very effective and noticed in a couple of rooms the net was heavier & sagged a bit with the weight of the energy, whereas in others, like my healing room, it was feather light and took no effort to raise at all.

Before you leave your old home look around the place and talk to it- sounds crazy- but I’ve found thanking your old abode for sheltering you is a satisfying thing to do and a good way to part. I gave the walls and banisters a farewell stroke before I left & it felt like I’d said a respectful goodbye.

So now the exciting bit- entering your new place & making it feel like home! Once the removal van has gone you can say ‘Hello’ to your home. Walk around the rooms and give the walls, banisters and doorframes a welcoming pat. If you’ve been visualising yourself in it then you’ll probably already feel quite at ease. Wait quietly & see how the house responds. Houses are a bit like animals; they have personalities. Some will feel like they are ready to give you a big hug right away, others may be timid and take a little longer to trust you and ‘open up’.

Your new property will probably need space clearing at some point. You can wait until you’ve unpacked some boxes if the energy feels pleasant. If it feels a bit stagnant or unpleasant then it is better to prioritise getting the energy moving over your unpacking. You can always do another ceremony when the unpacking is finished.

Aim to get at least some of your favourite items out of the packing boxes within a day or so of moving. They carry very positive vibrations and by placing them out on show you will lift your spirits and feel quickly at home. I’d put up some of my most loved pictures on day one, before I’d sorted out the kitchen. It may not sound practical, but it felt good!

When you have unpacked and you have cleared the energies of the house then you can also ‘unpack’ your memories from your heart centre. Stand in a place where you feel you can connect with your new home and place your palms over your heart centre. Open your arms, palms out, with the intention of sending your happy memories into your new home and wait while they flow outwards. I got the basis of this exercise from Karen Kingston’s book 'Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui' which is also my main reference guide for space clearing techniques and my inspirational read when I need to clutter clear.

Good luck in all of your house moving!
