Golden Leaves and Nature

Fall is a great time to take photos of nature as the leaves are turning and the colors in the landscape can be quite beautiful and rich. Try to experiment with your angles and turn your camera to face upwards. Blue and orange are opposing colours, so if photograph orange leaves against a blue sky you will get a photo with a vivid pop of colour.

Texture and Shape

Leaves at this time of year take on a different texture and shape so get creative and see how well you can isolate a leaf and show off its fragile beauty. Dry Leaves and leaves that are disintegrating can make interesting subjects.

Close-up Photos of Morning Dew

Get up early and see if you can find morning dew to take photos of. A compact camera is actually quite good to use if you do not have a DSLR with a macro lens. Tuck your arms in close to your body to avoid camera shake or use a tripod if you have one. Close up photography always exaggerates camera shake so bear that in mind when shooting.

Take Advantage of Bad Weather

Don’t be afraid to take your camera out on seemingly dull and grey days as this is an excellent opportunity to experiment with black and white photography. Most of the dramatic black and white landscape images that you see are taken on days like this, as the dark skies look really moody in black and white images and lend themselves to a compelling image.

Portraits

This time of year is great for portrait photography as the sun is at a lower angle in the sky. This quality of light is better for your photography, as you won’t have to worry so much about harsh shadows on the face of your subject. There is less bright sunlight at this time of year, so if you have a lens with a wide aperture take advantage of the bokeh and blur out your backgrounds for a pleasing effect.

Get Creative Indoors

Summer is over so it’s colder outside, and maybe you don’t want to venture outside too often. This would be a good time to discover the great indoors. Challenge yourself to find interesting subjects in your house and photograph them as creatively as possible.
