November 20, is the annual fundraiser sponsored by McDonald’s Restaurants all over the world and with backing by UNICEF. It coincides with the anniversary of Convention of the Rights of the Child, signed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on November 20, 1989, as resolution 44/25.
McDonald’s and their trademarked “World Children’s Day” is a way of raising money for disadvantaged children all over the world. You simply buy a cheeseburger and McDonald’s will donate a portion sales toward helping children. Yes, McDonald’s has taken a lot of slack about helping making obese children but, McDonald’s is trying to do some good for the children of the world.
As for the Convention of the Rights of the Child Resolution, it is basically human rights we are talking about. Children all over the world are at risk of slavery, prostitution, torture and death. The resolution is a rather long one, it needed to be, due to what it is covering take a moment and check out the link and give it a read. Children are still suffering World wide, since the resolution was signed. You ask what can you do to help? Donate to charities that are legitimate, make sure products you buy are not made by sweatshops where children are used as workers. Take a stand for the rights of people everywhere, especially the children. If you don’t want to buy the cheeseburger at McDonald’s you can always donate money to them or someone else. Or, you can buy a bunch and give them to the hungry. Please, just do something.
