2008 Masters is History

A new golfer started the Masters in the lead and remained there for all four days of play and ended with 9 under. The new winner is Trevor Immelman from South Africa and was he something to watch. He was so into his game that when the close-up cameras were on his face before every shot, you understood what visualization of your shot is all about. In my book review of Golf the Mental Game it was all in there when you watch Trevor play. He visualized every shot as he stood behind the ball you could watch his eye go back and forth from ball up to fairway and most time his ball ended up in the fairway.

It was good to watch a young dedicated golfer who was determined to win that tournament and he was successful. This will be an amazing year for him as he will reap all those endorsements and fame will be his from now on. He looked like a nice young man as his wife, little boy and the rest of his family were there at the 18th green to congratulate him at the end. A joyous occasion for them and it was nice to watch.

Tiger was second with 5 under but he had putting troubles for most of the full tournament. It was amazing that he ended up in second place. I had never seen Tiger putt so bad, they went every direction some wide, most long, some curled out but he did drop one for a birdie on the 18th hole. Tiger gave a shrug as like where have you been lately. OH! He did make a long one and a few others to get him to 5 under par.

The Masters was a typical Masters event with shots that went awry, into the pine needles, into the water and into the sand traps. Those undulating greens are amazing it is a wonder they make any long putts. That is why this first major tournament is so much fun to watch. The scenery is beautiful for the Augusta Golf course does not get much play as it is strictly a private, I mean a very private club designed by Bobby Jones the legend.

As for Trevor Immelman it will be fun to see how he does on some of the later events, it will be good for him to relax now and enjoy the attention. Tiger will have to wait to try for the Grand Slam of golf if you can’t win the first one it is wait until next year. He will win more tournaments as he is an amazing golfer.
