We arrived in the Lakes area of New Hampshire late on a Friday. After checking in at the Coppertoppe Inn, we asked Sheila about a good place for dinner. She recommended the Lucky Dog Tavern and Grill in Plymouth.
The Lucky Dog is a noisy, lively place on a Friday night. Every table was full when we entered, and people surrounded the bar three deep. The waitress told us it would be 10-15 minutes before she could seat us and my husband gave me a “should we wait?” look. But I had a good feeling about the Lucky Dog so I nodded.
Our wait didn’t seem long. By the time we got a drink, used the “Outhouse” (don’t worry, it’s a regular bathroom) and had a bite from the bread and cheese bar, our table was ready.
Our waitress, Ashley, was attentive and a real sweetheart. When we couldn’t decide right away what to order, she said, “that’s ok – I’ll be right back” and checked back for our order. Even though she was busy she managed to take good care of us.
I ordered the French Onion Soup, one of my favorites. The soup was hot and tangy with a thick a layer of cheese – very good.
A Chicken Caesar Salad was huge and loaded with chicken. Sirloin tips were flavorful, delicious and delivered exactly as ordered. The tips were served with a piping hot baked potato and grilled veggies.
We were both too full for dessert, (in fact, we had to ask for a “doggie bag”) but the offerings sounded tempting. Next time.
My husband got a kick out of a plaque about a lost dog: three-legged, missing an ear, with a broken tail – answers to Lucky. He also liked the glasses with the Lucky Dog logo – so much that he bought a set.
Before we even left we had decided to return the next time we’re in the area. The Lucky Dog was a lucky find – thanks, Sheila!
