Plainville Turkey Farm Restaurant, Cicero, NY

Plainville Turkey Farm restaurant (also known as Plainville Nature's Fair Restaurant) closed Feb. 2, 2010.

Thanksgiving came early this year! Well, sort of. My husband and I stopped in at the Plainville Turkey Farm Restaurant in Cicero, for – what else – a turkey dinner.

We had never been to the restaurant before, but had always heard good things about it. We decided that it was time to go.

In front, there’s a bakery, deli and gift shop. We were led into one of two dining rooms and seated at a booth.

The waitress immediately brought us a bread basket, filled with warm, homemade dinner rolls and apple bread, served with real butter. Both were delicious. Then she took our order.

I wasn’t brave enough to try turkey parmesan. Both my husband and I ordered the Classic Turkey Dinner, which features hearty servings of homemade mashed potatoes, dressing, and your choice of white or dark meat, or a combination of both. Plainville’s famous turkey gravy was served on the side, in a silver gravy boat, which was perfect since I kept reapplying it to my potatoes. Diners also have a choice of another side dish, including homemade applesauce, cottage cheese, Italian Pasta Salad, and more.

I liked the décor, bright and spacious with various turkey decanters. There is a huge stone fireplace on one wall and a scenic mural on another. Our waitress was polite and efficient and very friendly.

The restaurant has a buffet which features a salad bar, hot entrees and a dessert table. There are also several non-turkey offerings, such as roast beef, salmon, and pork tenderloin.

We both had more than enough to eat. In fact, my husband was kind enough to help me finish my meal. We both ate well for under $25 (minus the tip).

When we left, I stopped by the bakery to pick up some cookies for our son. I got two Snickerdoodles, one frosted sugar cookie, and a chocolate chip cookie for $2.

Plainville Turkey Farms is a family-owned business, dating back to 1835. Besides the restaurant, Plainville is known in the Eastern US for their quality line of fresh turkeys and deli meats.

Plainville Turkey Farm (plainvillefarms.com) is located at 8450 Brewerton Road (State Route 11), Cicero, NY. Their phone number is 315.699.3852.
