Faith is back with her newest release that just might silence her critics that have accused her of going too pop in recent years. “Fireflies” brings her back to country.
Starting with the first track Faith lets the listener know that she is coming home to her country roots. She isn’t going to please everyone every time, yet she is trying to do what she does best, pick the music that reflects her life at the time of the CD recording. After being accused of “going Hollywood” with her last release “Cry” and appearing in “The Stepford Wives”, it appears Faith Hill decided to come back to the genre that has made her famous and given her a home. With songs written by The Warren Brothers, John Rich and Lori McKenna, Faith gives it her all and hopes to satisfy at least some of her critics.
Sunshine and Summertime is about having fun and memories of summertime, and upbeat tune that you should enjoy.
Mississippi Girl the first hit off the CD was written by John Rich of Big & Rich specifically for Faith after he spent time with her. Anyone in country that has had cross over hits has to know how she felt when she received such stinging reviews with her last release, he seems to have hit the nail on the head with this song, which is why Faith can sing it with such conviction and feeling.
Dearly Beloved comes across as a tongue and cheek song about marriage today. Too bad it hits the nail on the head for so many people these days. It is still a fun song to listen to with the beat, it does get your toe to tapping.
I Ain’t Gonna Take It Anymore is a ballad that showcases Faiths voice wonderfully, she shows why she has gotten where she is today with her talent. It talks about finally having enough of the “scorekeeping” of wrongs in a relationship and the decision to end the relationship.
Stealing Kisses is another ballad, this one talks about going over your life and trying to figure out how you got where you are and where you have been. This listener can relate to the song, it could be taken as a “mid-life” crisis song if you will.
Fireflies talks about believing in fairy tales and dreams. Don’t give up on your dreams.
Like We Never Loved At All is the duet with Tim McGraw (he sings on the chorus, so is it really a duet?), this is the song they sang together on the CMA’s so well. It talks about a love that has ended and trying to pick up the pieces.
I Want You is a descriptive song about how badly she wants someone.
The Lucky One is about loving someone and knowing how lucky she is to have him. With the stories you hear about Tim and Faith, you have to really think she thought of him and their life together when she heard it for the first time.
If You Ask could be the song for anyone that lives with someone that abuses drugs or alcohol. The feelings and emotions she puts into the song are awesome.
We’ve Got Nothing But Love To Prove seems to be Faith’s way of expressing her beliefs on the war going on at the moment and how she feels about it. It really doesn’t fit in on the CD in my opinion.
You Stay With Me talks about working thru the bad times in a relationship and staying together.
Wish For You sounds like Faith's hopes and dreams for her kids. It could be a lullaby that a parent would sing to their child.
Paris is the bonus track on the CD, it is almost out of place on the CD, it comes across as more of a big band type song.
Overall, the CD is good, it is Faith trying come home where she belongs with a couple of missteps. Hopefully it is a good sign and we'll hear more of the same type of things we did when she first burst onto the country scene in her future releases.
