Air Purification

If you have any type of breathing problem, you probably have come to appreciate clean air and how it affects your body. Air is one of the basic elements human beings need to survive. Unclean air can begin a series of health and breathing problems.

Studies show that the air inside of the home contains more harmful substances than the air outside. High levels of harmful bacteria, mold, pollen, dust, dust mites, tobacco smoke are a reality in the home. Breathing in these contaminants creates health conditions and worsens allergies, asthma, bronchitis, migraine headaches, lung disorders, etc.

Cleaning the air you breathe is essential for good health. Using an air purifier will reduce contaminants in the air before they enter your lungs and body. Air purifiers create good health, increase healthy breathing, and they help you to feel good and sleep restfully.

It's easier to function during the day, and sleep at night when you can breathe clean air and are not affected with allergies and breathing problems.

Allergies are a natural problem for most human beings, but a good air purifier can help to relieve allergy symptoms. However, choosing an air purifier can be confusing.

It is helpful to avoid ozone producing air purifiers. Ozone purifies the air, but it is harmful to the human body, especially lung tissue. Over time ozone exposure can cause sore throat, headache, exacerbation of asthma, lung pain and lung deterioration. The American Lung Association has found that "even small increases in ozone are associated with reduced lung function and increased mortality rates".

Ozone occurs naturally in the environment to clean the air. For example this type of ozone is released into the atmosphere as result of rain, waterfalls, and lightening. This is not harmful ozone. Harmful ozone comes from air purification products that emit manufactured ozone into the air, often at dangerously high levels. When absorbed by the human body, this type of ozone can deteriorate health.

The healthiest and safest air purification systems use HEPA filter technology.
Look for models that are rated as quiet and effective, with filters that are reasonably priced.

With air purification, more expensive does not always equal better quality. Most air purifiers are designed in the same way. They contain a motor that intakes air into the device, pushing it through a pre-filter, then charcoal filter, and at the final stage a HEPA filter. The air is cleaned by this process, and released into the room.

I have received many emails asking for air purifier recommendations. I can only tell you what I have found in my own research. Please remember that Bella has no endorsements with any of these companies. The following are just products worthy of praise.

This past summer, I began the exhausting experience of trying to find a good air purifier. It was exactly that...exhausting. Too many hours of research online, six heavy models tested and returned, and a lot of back pain later from all the heavy lifting, I thought my search would never be complete.

My search began when I needed an air purifier to remove smoke coming into my apartment from a neighboring apartment. (A long and scary story, and I will address the dangers of second hand smoke soon in a future article. Im sure you will agree, second hand smoke is an important topic. But for now, lets talk about air purifiers.)

During the course of my own research, I found the Hamilton Beach allergen reducer cleaned the air and removed second hand smoke, better than all the other expensive models I tested. I learned Hamilton Beach makes excellent air purification systems that are reasonably priced. I now have three Hamilton Beach air purifiers in my home, and personally I think they are quiet and clean the air well. I also love that i can change their single filters easily, often and inexpensively.

The filter is an important consideration before purchasing an air purifier.
It can be problematic, if you choose a model with the wrong type of filter, for example one that is too expensive or impossible to find for replacement. The perfect air purifier has a HEPA filter that is effective, inexpensive, easy to change, and easy to find.

Blue Air, Whirlpool, Fredrich, Venta Air Washer, and Hunter (without the ionizer) are also excellent air purifiers that come to mind. I have read a lot of good things about these products.

It is also a good idea to frequently change the filters on the central heating /air unit in your home. This is an easy, quick and inexpensive way to clean the air. Clean filters contribute to healthy breathing and immune system functioning, all of which help to improve health.

Take some time to research and learn about an air purifier before you purchase one. A good place to start is www.consumerreports.org. They are unbiased, and test products for health, safety, and performance. Amazon.com and epinions.com also offer product information and opinions that are very informative.

I hope that this article will help you in your search for a good air purifier. Please keep in mind that my words are written with the intention of helping people. This article is a compilation of facts that are easily verifiable on the web. It is also meant as the humblest of opinions, based on my own research and experiences.
