I have the last three of the December romance releases here to share this time out, and I've already started reading through some of the January books that will be available late this month. I hope, amid all the craziness that is December, you're all finding a little reading time as well.
Liplock (Brava) by Susannah Carr starts things off this time with Molly Connors lying to everyone, including her sexy boss, Kyle Ashton. Not a good start for a sympathetic or likeable heroine. Sure, Kyle can be attracted to her, but trust her? I don't think so. Which made it impossible for me to buy into the romance angle of this, from either of their points of view. And if you don't like the characters, who cares about hot sex? Too bad, really. I couldn't help thinking Kyle deserved a better heroine.
Twelfth Night Proposal (Silhouette Romance #1794) by Karen Rose Smith is next, with Leo Montgomery realizing that the woman he's hired to nanny his young daughter might just be good for him as well. Verity Sumpter might be young, but she's known loss just as severe as Leo's. But giving her heart to Leo isn't as difficult for her as getting over his past is for Leo. Leo and Verity's romance here is sweet, just the thing to ease some of your December tension. A little hope to start the new year is something we can all use, and this is just the story to give it to you. It's earned four of Cupid's five arrows.
Close to Perfect (Brava) by Tina Donohue finishes up for us this time out, with Josh Wyatt hiring Tess Franklin to be his bodyguard after some tabloid pics cause him to be south Florida's newest sex object. The conflict between Josh and Tess is pretty slight, almost enough to be nonexistent, in my opinion. The story is cute, but not a keeper for me. All the characters (and I do mean 'characters') who come out of the woodwork on Tess's side of things get to be a little predictable after a little while. This one's earned only three arrows--it's far from perfect.
