Some birds scream more than others – but all birds can scream.
Keep notes about the times that your bird screams. What happens just before he starts? What do you do when your bird screams?
Has something changed in the last few months that has caused your bird to scream? Have you just moved – or has a new pet (dog, cat or another bird) been brought into the home – or has another person moved in (baby or adult)? Are you spending less time with your bird than you used to?
Is your bird spending more time in the cage than he used to? Have you changed brands of food? Is he getting less people food? Are you spending less time at home than you used to?
Does your bird scream when you are eating – or when you are on the phone – or when you are watching TV – or when you are not in the room – or when you have guests over – or all of the above?
Are there enough toys in the cage for him to play with – or are there too many toys? Do you rotate the toys, so he is always getting something different to play with that he has not seen in awhile?
By keeping notes, you may be able to answer the above questions. Once you have answered those questions it is time to try to figure out how to stop the screaming – or at least bring it down to an acceptable level.
