Board Games for the Holidays

When planning for guests this holiday, do not forget the board games. While some guests may prefer to watch football, some may not be so keen on the idea. Board games offer a fun alternative to television.

Before guests arrive, find out which board games they enjoy. You can even ask them to bring their favorite board game. This way everyone can play a board game that they love.

Space may be limited, so consider games that do not take up much space. Games like Catchphrase, Hedbanz, and Pictionary take up very little space. Many of these games can be played with kids, too. Look for board games that do not use a board and do not take up a lot of room.

If the weather is nice, you may want to play some games outside. Games like Boochie are meant to be played in the backyard. Players toss a ring and a ball trying to land it as close to the Boochie ball as possible. Players score if they are the closest. There are also giant-sized Chess boards that are meant for use outdoors. It is a great way to get moving after a big holiday meal.

Party games like Cranium, Apples to Apples, Quelf, and Wits and Wagers are good to play when you have a crowd. Have several games on hand for plenty of options. Party games are usually easy to learn and fun to play. Even if guests are not familiar with a party game, they can learn all about it in a short amount of time.

Even though you may be stuffed from eating holiday foods, make sure to have some snacks on hand. Popcorn, peanuts, and potato chips are good salty options to enjoy. You can also have fruits and a vegetable platter to give something crunchy and nutritious.

The holidays are a time for getting together and enjoying good times. Create special memories and start traditions by playing board games. It will be fun for all of your holiday guests.
