The Latest Battlestar Galactica News

At the moment everyone’s talking about Kara Thrace’s destiny on “Battlestar Galactica” and the incredible season finale, so we thought we’d jump on the bandwagon and give you some recent news about the show:

“Battlestar Galactica” was greenlit for another season, so we fans can stop worrying about that for awhile. Thirteen new episodes are planned for production, with a target airdate of January 2008. Yes, that’s a long time from now, but at a recent convention Jamie Bamber told Galactica.tv editors that there’s still the promise of a double episode this fall, which will later be available on DVD. He also said, by the way, that the season finale is probably the best episode ever and that some of his best episodes (with Lee in plainclothes, and deepening the conflict with his father) are coming up.

The show’s prospects seem to have improved, too: according to the SciFi Channel’s press, the show’s move to Sunday nights improved its demographics by eight percent in total viewers—with double digit gains among women viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. One episode, “Taking A Break from All Your Worries,” delivered 2.5 million viewers, which has been the largest audience for an episode since the season two premiere on July 15, 2005. Looks like the show is finally recovering from the loss of “Stargate SG-1” as its lead-in.

Meanwhile, Scifi.com has started a cool new project called the Battlestar Galactica Videomaker Toolkit (see link at bottom of page). This tool lets fans create their own four-minute shorts about the show, including access to more than 30 visual effects, over 20 audio effects and cuts from the series soundtrack. Fans can post their works back onto Scifi.com--and some of examples are very funny, so check them out. Later on, “BSG” Executive Producer David Eick will select his favorite video, and it will be broadcast on the SciFi Channel during an episode of the show. It’s not a new idea—the Disney Channel has offered kids the chance to mix “High School Musical” videos on its site, for example, but we’re thinking it could be a lot of fun.

If somehow you missed this, check out this fan-generated “BSG” list. It’s so funny, I’m still laughing after having read it days ago. “You had me at Helo…” And I’m still trying to picture vipers coming together to form a giant robot. The jokes about Tigh’s eyepatch…okay, okay, not everything here is in good taste. Be warned. But read it anyway. It’s called The Kara Thrace Memorial List of Things Skippy Is No Longer Allowed to Do Aboard the Battlestar Galactica.
