I like to hang things in my closet as much as I am able, but some things are just difficult to hang. Firstly there are sweaters, which really don’t do very well on a hanger. Then there are children’s items that children struggle to hang for themselves. I’ve trained my children to hang their t shirts, but they have more trouble with skirts and pants.
There is the possibility of re-modeling the whole closet, but that seemed too expensive and too big a job for me. Each closet in my house has a long closet rod and the space that it provides is not fully used. I was looking for a simple solution when I stumbled upon the Canvas Sweater Organizer.
The organizer fits over the closet rod with a large piece of Velcro. I was a little concerned that it wouldn’t hold the weight, but when I saw the large surface areas that stick together, my fears disappeared.
I bought a 3 drawer hanger for my husband’s sweaters. I can fit 9 sweaters into it easily and I love the fact that they are visible, simple to get out and easy to put back. This is a much better system than piling them on top of each other and then pulling one from the bottom and messing up the pile.
Then I bought 2 x 6 drawer hangers for my daughter’s room. I didn’t trust her to have a stack of clothes in each section, so I only put one or two items of clothing in each compartment and it stays neat.
Each section is about 10 inches wide, 15 inches deep and 8 inches high. That’s about the size you fold an adult sweater to.
The only minus I can see is that the six-shelf organizer swings a little at the bottom. It’s great for a teen or pre-teen’s room, but I wouldn’t put it in a pre-schooler’s bedroom for fear they would swing on it and so damage it. For the child who has a high closet rod, it can bring clothes down to a reachable level.
I bought and paid for the closet organizers myself after looking for a solution for the messy clothes in my husband’s part of the closet and my daughter’s closet. It is the perfect solution for what I was looking for. The shelves are sturdier than I expected and I anticipate they will last a long time. They fit a pile of sweaters quite nicely, but I don’t think they would survive long if they were full of something heavy, like jeans.
