Website and web page design, even without using HTML, is hard enough on its own. Trying to find the clipart you need for free is even harder. I know! I have been there! In the beginning of my website design, I tried to be exceptionally careful about what I took from where. I wanted to remain honest and legal at all times. I spent many hours looking for what I needed and getting more and more frustrated. When I would find what I wanted, it seemed as though I would just have to take it. That is not legal! I researched to find-out what I needed to do to remain legal and get the clipart I desired.

The art of learning how and where to search on the web should be a 2 year education in itself. Fortunately for me, I was willing to ask questions, and learn as I go! In my searches, I discovered that there is a lot out there to be downloaded and used for free, or next to free. If it’s free, the site providing the clipart wants you to post a link back to their site. That is where I began. I could do that. My favorite search engine was Ask Jeeves, although I did also like Google. Before you find the clipart you look on a site, check out the Terms of Use. This will probably save you a lot of wasted time. If you find clipart you like on another site and want to use it, just ask the website owner (usually a link at the bottom of each page “Contact Webmaster”). This is also true of any copyright material. All you have to do to be legal is to write the webmaster and ask for written permission to post the art. Most webmasters had no issues with me, and just asked me to post a link under the art stating that I had “Permission to Post” with their website address listed.

Animation Factory – This is a great site that will just about fill all your needs, but it is $20 a month. I joined and downloaded all I needed in that time to last me forever.
