In its first post-Katrina Mardi Gras, Louisiana-native Britney Spears is heading to New Orleans to help the city celebrate.

Spears will appear on ABC's "Good Morning America" live telecast from New Orleans, on Fat Tuesday, Feb 28. Plans are for her to meet with some children and give them Mardi Gras gifts, and then possibly perform.

"I am honored to be a part of the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans this year," said Spears in a press statement. "It is so important for this amazing city to continue its annual traditions and I am really looking forward to being involved."
