Everything consists of two energies complementing each other. One of the energies is Yin and the other one is Yang. These two energies are never separated and they canít exist without each other. There is no absolute in Yin-Yang theory. When something is related to Yin, then something else is related to Yang. According to the Yin Yang theory, Yang represents male and Yin represents female. Everything inside the body is under the control of Yin and Yang. As they have an inter-dependent relationship, when there is a problem in Yin, Yang will also be affected.
Yin and Yang are represented by the sun and the moon. One half is black and the other half is white. The white part represents the sun and the black part represents the moon. Even though the white dot in the black part and the black dot in the white part are opposite, they represent the potential of transition to the other.
Everything exists with its opposite in the universe. We canít know the Ďhotí without knowing the Ďcoldí, we canít know the soft without hard, we canít know the brightness without the darkness. Yin/Yang is constantly variable. Day turns into night, hot tea gets cold, or even a social person can turn into a shy person. These constantly changing energies are the power that regenerates the universe.
Active Yang, Passive Yin
Yang is an active and restless energy while yin is a passive and accepting energy. Yang is masculine and yin is feminine. The sun, summer, light, bright colors, outdoor places and the state of being awake are related to Yang. On the other hand, the moon, darkness, winter, dark colors, cold, indoor places and the state of sleep are related to Yin.
Yin and Yang are relative concepts and thus, they should be evaluated based on the environment. Consider a city by the coast. The beaches, which are crowded and full of energy, are considered yang during the summer and yin during the winter. In the same way, the sea without waves in the summer is considered yin and a heavy sea in the winter is considered yang. Even though a mountain is generally considered yang, itís considered yin if itís behind a house. Are you confused? Donít be. When two objects are together, the more active one is yang and the other one is yin. Itís that simple!
Living Rooms are Yang, Bedrooms are Yin
In order to have a comfortable, peaceful and healthy life at home, there needs to be both yin and yang areas. Working and living areas should be decorated as yang and should be in the active area, the entrance, of the house. Living room and working room should have creative elements to encourage creativity.
The bedroom should be away from the active areas of the house and have yin characteristics. The dark colors are considered yin, but itís not necessary to paint the bedroom with dark colors. Softer pastel colors are good for a comfortable and healthy sleep.
If your house is located in the city, then youíre in a yang environment with the traffic, the bars, the restaurants and the shops around. You can balance the yang outside with yin elements inside such as soft colors, wooden floor, a few healthy plants. However, if you are living outside the city, itís so normal to feel isolated when you come home at night and find the stores closed and the area quiet. In this case, you can cheer up your house with bright lights, bright colors and pictures that would motivate you.
Some people have yang characteristics while some others have yin characteristics. Thus, the houses should be decorated according to the personís characteristics. Yin people would be comfortable in yin areas while yang people would be comfortable in yang areas. The key is to create a balance based on the personís needs.
