There's nothing like the touch of a massage therapist as they begin their service of relaxing your tired and stressed body. One of the benefits of massage is that of getting your skin super moisturized when the masseuse uses natural oil. Sweet Almond, grapeseed, coconut, jojoba, olive and avocado oil are what I've seen used most.
Now combine these oils with essential oils and not only do you get an aromatherapy treatment but you get the power of a holistic approach to your body being nourished with nature's finest.
You can provide this same service to yourself as a self-massage when you use body oils as you step out of the tub or shower. Place a towel on the side of your tub for you to sit on. Begin at your feet using both hands and massage these oils into your skin as you work your way up your body.
As the natural oils nourish your skin they also create a glide on your skin, preventing friction and to assist you in your massage. These natural oils also help promote a sense of well-being. Cold pressed oils are best because they maintain their natural vitamin content and nutritive values that not only lubricate but also absorb into your skin moisturizing it when you are done.
The essential oils provide an aromatic environment that aid in creating a relaxing response to your massage.
Here are two Body Moisturizer Recipes
For Super Dry Skin try this combination of oils.
½ cup of sweet almond oil
¼ cup of coconut oil
4 tablespoons of jojoba oil
1 ½ tablespoons of avocado oil
3-5 drops of lavender or an essential oil blend for dry skin
Store your blend in a cool dry place and it should last you for 3 to 6 months. A little goes a long way. This is a very thick oil blend so if you apply it to your skin after you get out of your tub/shower, use it sparingly and massage gently into your skin.
For a lighter oil and something you can use in your bath water or as a body oil (after bath) try this combination
1 cup of apricot kernel oil
1/4 cup of virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon of wheatgerm oil
1 teaspoon of jojoba oil
3-5 drops of essential of your choice
Store in a cool dry place.
If you're a lover of essential oils, experiment with different combinations and create a different scented body moisturizer and experience every time you bathe and massage your skin.
Until next time …
