Dale Ann's pen touched three of the cuts on this project. She collaborated with Pam Tillis for the title cut Somewhere South of Crazy which could cross over quite easily into the country music world. She teamed with Jeff White and Kim Fox for a traditionally styled ballad titled Leaving Kentucky. Round and Round was a solo effort and is charming in its simple arrangement with an understated fiddle and banjo carrying the melody giving you a sense of the open road. Steve Gulley and Russell Allen collaborated to contribute a sweet love song titled Restoring the Love .
In almost every project, Dale Ann Bradley grasses up a tune from another genre. She has an innate ability to select songs traditionally found in other genres and masterfully use a bluegrass arrangement with powerful results. Nevertheless, Seals and Croft's Summer Breeze is a stretch for Bluegrass treatment. Come Home Good Boy reminds us to honor our service men who continue to support our freedoms while serving in foreign countries.
The final cut is a bonus track, Old Southern Porches features a touching live performance with the simplicity of Dale's vocal and acoustic guitar. The project offers a strong mix of selections consistent with Dale's finely crafted signature sound of bluegrass.
