Shrek The Halls This Holiday Season

ABC brings back the whole Shrek crew in their half hour Christmas special Shrek The Halls. The show aired Wednesday November 28. Featuring the voices of Cameron Diaz, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Antonio Banderas bringing their characters from the feature films back to life. It will air in Australia on Saturday, December 1.

Shrek finally thought that he could sit back, relax and enjoy his happily ever after with his family. But then Christmas arrives and Shrek tries to make the holiday a memorable one for Fiona and the kids. There is only one small problem; he has no idea what Christmas is all about or how to even get in the holiday spirit to celebrate the most joyous of holidays. Not willing to let this keep him from making this a special Christmas he sets out to the town bookstore to learn how to do Christmas right.

The shopkeeper gives Shrek a book entitled Christmas For Village Idiots. Following the books instructions Shrek decorates the swamp, the house, and even gets a tree to celebrate their first Christmas together as a family.

Then Donkey comes brining the whole gang to celebrate Christmas with Shrek’s family, ruining Shrek’s own plans for a quiet family celebration. Donkey, Gingerbread Man, and Puss in Boots each tell their own version of a Christmas story. Shrek has finally had enough and ends up kicking everyone out of the house in true ogre fashion.

After Fiona takes the kids to go apologize to all their friends and Shrek is left alone in the festively decorated swamp he begins to realize just how mean he has acted. He goes after everyone and apologizes and they all go back to hear Shrek’s version of the Christmas story, featuring Ogre Claus.

The show is laced with the usual Shrek potty humor including burping, nose picking, gas passing, and vomiting done by the Gingerbread Man in the form of a chocolate chip. There are less of the usual innuendoes and adult-humor that we a s movie goers are use to seeing in the Shrek full feature movies. So as long as you don’t mind the potty humor and are a fan of the Shrek world then this is one that you do not want to miss.

If you missed the premiere of Shrek The Halls, ABC will be re-airing it on Tuesday, December 11.

If you do watch the show be prepared for the renewed interest in Shrek merchandising just in time for Christmas! Do you think that was planned?

Happy Holidays from our house to yours!
