Note: If you grow mustard plants in your garden they will spread quickly and will take over if not controlled. Mustard seeds have a spicy taste only when crushed and mixed with a liquid. Mustard is an ancient and valued herb; Roman soldiers carried mustard with them into battle.
Mustard is used for meats, but also flavors gingerbread type sweets. Mustard has often been used in medicines. It is credited with stimulating appetite and digestion, and clearing the sinuses. The infamous mustard plaster was used to increase blood circulation, but tended to cause more blisters than good. It is better to ingest mustard seeds as they are a good source of selenium and magnesium. Both are believed to reduce the severity of asthma.
