A Song of Ice and Fire series written by George R R Martin is set in the fictional kingdom of Westereos and is told through multiple viewpoints. The story follows the fierce power struggle between the Starks, Baratheons and Lannisters to gain control of Westereos as well as the ominous Others and wildlings beyond the Wall, and the mounting power of Daenerys Targaryen, heir of the King Aerys whom Robert defeated to gain the crown.

Although densely written with an enormous cast of characters, this series is a pleasure to read. While my personal favorite is book 2, A Clash of Kings, I would recommend the whole series to anyone who enjoys reading epic fantasy. Martin's writing is so convincing that Westereos has almost become a real place in my mind. The characters are so well developed that I find myself wondering about them long after finishing the book. I am eagerly awaiting the release of Book 5, A Dance with Dragons. Included in this series are:
