Fruits of the West Indies have long been touted for many rich sources of vitamins. The many Islands offer up a smorgasbord of delightfully exotic and flavorful fruits bountiful year round. This can be attributed to a few things. These Islands were born due to volcano eruptions and eventually repositioning of crustal plates along a fault zone between North and South America..
What does this have to do with fruits you ask? Well it is really quite simple. It seems that Volcanic activity has contributed to renewed top soil that consists of an infusion of sea minerals and other nutrients found in oceanic environment making for healthy plant life production. This all may sound like some magical ingredient added to the mix of the regular elements like water, sun, and climate, but it is the main reason for a bountiful and delicious harvest in that region of the world. A similar occurrence took place in San Marzano, Italy. Just ask the folks in that region now famous for the tastiest tomatoes on the planet. The proud Italians will give you their best account of why their harvest seem to the finest produce. The publicity has ultimately brought agricultural and culinary fame to their Province. A sure fire compliment to Mother nature, don’t you think? .
In certain parts of the United States with comparable climate and soil textures, some of these fruits have been duplicated with amazing results making it much easier than before to attain these fruits and more in your local supermarket and gourmet shop. If they aren’t available to you, an online search for a tropical fruit vendor can be a great source to supply your needs. But for my lucky friends living in the tropics, they can simply extend a hand and pick at their whim a delightful piece of fruit. It can be either Soursop, Sapodilla, Money Apple, Star Apple, Pineapple, Custard or Sugar Apple, Tamarind, Whitey, Jackfruit, Cashew, Passion Fruit, Guava, Jamoon (a.k.a. Acai), Genip, Avocado, Mango, Mamie, Pawpaw (a.k.a. Papaya), Watermelon, Ugly Fruit, Stinking Toe, Kuru, Owara, or Mangosteen. If I haven’t named one of your favorites, it is because I have not heard of or tried it, and now it’s your duty to enlighten me.
