Erin Håkansson: I create necklaces and earrings using sterling silver, 14K gold-filled, and semi-precious stones. Each stone is hand picked for its individual quality, color, texture, and shape. The designs I have put together are timeless and can be worn for years to come. SD: What is your favorite jewelry material to work with and do you have a favorite gemstone or precious metal?
Erin Håkansson: This year, I worked a lot with black onyx, both polished and matte finish. Black onyx is thought to be a protection stone that transforms negative energy and helps relieve stress. Black is also such a universal color and looks good on everyone. In the past, I have exclusively worked with sterling silver, but I have just started experimenting with 14K gold and gold-filled metal.
SD: Tell us about one of your favorites pieces in your collection.
Erin Håkansson: One of my favorite pieces now is the freshwater pearl and smoky quartz drop necklace. The asymmetrical style gives the necklace a unique look while still being classic. This necklace surely draws attention when you wear it. The bottom smoky quartz pendant can be switched for different gemstones such as black onyx, aquamarine, turquoise, etc.
SD: Do you have a following—collectors of Erin Håkansson Jewelry?
Erin Håkansson: Yes, I have quite a few people that buy the majority of their jewelry through me and another group of people that buy several pieces every year. Since I am always creating new pieces, the styles are regularly updated. Word of mouth and referrals are my best source of new customers.I have also created a book of all of my designs that either stores or individuals can order to have a more comprehensive portfolio than what is in stores or on the website.

SD: Do you do custom work?
Erin Håkansson: Yes, custom work is a lot of fun for me. When customers help create their own piece, they feel very connected to it because they were a part of the creative process. I have also worked with several brides on creating bridal jewelry as well as bridesmaid’s jewelry.
SD: What is the turnaround time on an order?
Erin Håkansson: The usual turnaround time is 24 to 48 hours, if the item is in stock. The majority of the items on the website are kept in stock, so the turnaround time is usually very fast. Either way, I notify the customer the same day as to when I will be able to ship.
