Make Your Own Buttons For Free

Having your own website or web page is a wonderful feeling. We all want our sites to be a little different, showing who we are, or what we are trying to portray to our readers. I like to create my own buttons for my site. Often we may need or want buttons that don’t come with the typical free sets. The best way to create my own, I found, was through the Buttongenerator.com site. Here, you can choose your button style, color, shape and enter in your own text. The buttons are then generated for you. This is a wonderful tool!

I would recommend before you start, creating a folder to save your buttons in. If you don’t know how to create a folder, I will list some easy instructions for you. 1) On your desktop (or wherever you want the new folder) right click and click on NEW and then click FOLDER. A new folder will appear. Type in the desired name of the new folder. Now, you have your folder and can begin building your buttons. I would also recommend making a list of the buttons you wish to generate so that none are left out. Examples: HOME, NEXT, BACK, TOP, ABOUT US, CONTACT US, GUESTBOOK, ETC.

Once on the site, page through and pick the shape and style of button you want. You can change the button and text colors later. After you have selected your button, you are re-directed to the BUTTON GENERATOR. I usually choose to stay in the EASY FORM (listed at the top). If you wish to change the color of the button, just click on a color next to SELECT BUTTON COLOR. Type in the text you want on button. For the font, I really like that they have a screen displaying what each font looks like. Just arrow through the display, find the font you like, and click the arrow next to FONT. Click on the desired font name you just found. The default font size is 12, but can also be changed to another setting. I tend to stick with 12 and 14. Choose whether you want the text aligned left, right or center. The TOP TEXT LAYER COLOR is the color of the Font. The BUTTOM TEXT LAYER COLOR is the shadowing of your Font. Click to generate your button. Walla~! Your new button has appeared. If you do not like the Font, color, or anything, just click the back arrow and keep going until you find the desired button changes.

To save your button, drag you mouse over it while left clicking to highlight. Right click your mouse, and click SAVE PICTURE AS. Navigate to the folder you designed earlier, name the button so it is easy to find, and you have your first button. It is a good idea to create full sets all at once, or at least write down all your settings while generating the button or the others may not match if done later. Also, different buttons are free at different times. This button may not always be free. To make your second button, just click the BACK arrow at the top of your screen, and change the TEXT. Generate all you buttons this way. Create your full set now from the list you generated earlier. When done, you have a full set of buttons you created for YOU! Congratulations! The site does request you post a link back to them somewhere on your site.

Be sure to watch for our next article on how to turn images into Hypertext Links. This will allow your viewer to click on the buttons, and go directly to that area of your site.
