Make Time to Write Your Newsletter

You have subscribers and you are feeling pretty good about your ezine or newsletter. Here is where the fun begins so to speak. You have to be consistent with writing your ezine or newsletter to keep your subscribers happy and in the expectation of receiving new information that will be of use to them.

Writing an ezine or newsletter requires a schedule of writing. It is best to set aside a period of time each week to write about your newsletter. If you have been keeping a journal, now is the time to pull it out and refer to it to help you with writing. Do not allow life’s distractions to keep you from getting your information on schedule. Here are a few ways to help you avoid the inevitable distractions to your train of thought.

Write your articles in your office or if that is not possible, write where you can be the least distracted. Constant interruptions will decrease the value of the product. Make sure that your family knows that you are working on a project that needs limited distractions. It will be hard at first but after a while they will get used to it and it will become part of their routine as well.

Unplug the phone and set the cell phone on ‘ringer off.’ Try not to look at your phone every few minutes. Blackberry’s and IPhones make that very difficult. You may have to turn those phones off to limit the distractions. Do not take phone calls while you write if it is not very important. Each time you take a call, the creative juices cease. Sometimes you will be able to get them going again, but often that particular thought is gone forever. Limiting phone calls can decrease the number of times you ask yourself ‘where were you.’

Sign out of your email while you are writing on your laptop. If the email is up, you will check it. It is hard not to look at what’s going on. Email even behind the Word program makes you feel like you are missing out on something late breaking. Close down your email and do not open it until you are finished.

Increase your quiet time by limiting television use. If the television is on, you will look. It may not be a show that you enjoy but it will cause a distraction in your work. If possible, create a quiet area will enhance your writing flow.

Set goals for your writing. If your goal was to create your newsletter by Friday, work on it a little each day. It helps to decrease your stress level and reduces procrastination.

These small changes will help you reach your goals and help your writing. The end result will be a successful newsletter that your readers will enjoy.
