Welcome to my second newsletter! The format is still a work in progress. I’m plotting continually. This newsletter should give you some idea of what I plan to feature in each newsletter.

To start with, I’ll be featuring a herp of the week and a corresponding informational site, a site of the week with a review, an item of the week with a small description and a link to the manufacturer’s site, as well as a list of herp events for the week and the states in which they take place.

Herp of the Week: Meller’s Chameleon

Scientific Name: Chameleo Melleri

Description: Adult size is roughly 28 inches. They have very high humidity requirements. Like most chameleons (and even moreso), they are not for the beginner. Chameleons on the whole require significant full spectrum lighting, well ventilated cages, a variety (at least 3 different types of) prey items per feeding) and privacy, privacy, privacy.

Review: This is your typical forum site with a few nifty extras thrown in such as members’ birthdays on the calendar and great reptile-related news items. They also have an adoption center (fairly empty at this point), free classifieds, and a nice (but still small) interview section. Registration is free as with any forum site.


Item of the Week: Exo-Terra Glass Terrarium

Review: Sturdy, well made, lockable terrarium suitable for amphibians and small to medium arboreal lizards. These are unsuitable for chameleons and other herps that require good ventilation. My favorite features are the wire hiding options and raised floor for substrate heating.
