“Flowers-Over 200 Ways to Use Flowers in Your Home” belongs in every flower lover’s library. Written by Stephen Woodhams with Hilary Mandleberg, this was published by Silverback Books.
It offers ideas that are just right for people on the go. Easy to create, the designs are arranged by color.
Green is normally a color we don’t associate with floral design, but this book devotes an entire chapter to green flowers and foliage. There are also chapters on white, blue, red, and yellow arrangements.
These cover a range of styles, including traditional, modern, formal, and informal.
This book is especially suitable for novices for the arrangements are made using quick and easy techniques. What I particularly like is that the authors suggest ways to display flowers where we ordinarily don’t use them, such as on stair banisters. These designs are just so clever and innovative.
For the arrangements, the author uses a variety of containers, including everything from test tubes and rustic wooden boxes to the more conventional bud vases and baskets.
Some of the designs are of particular seasonal interest with an example being one that combines white Lenten roses and forsythias. Another features spring catkins.
The flowers are arranged every way you can imagine. For example, one features alternating rows of yellow and orange roses. Whatever the occasion, you will find designs here that meet your needs. For example, when you are entertaining use the ones for centerpieces. For summer tea party, the lemon basket is to die for. For this design, the author uses fresh lemons, and cheery yellow gerberas along with green and variegated foliage.
Some of the designs are made with a single type of flower. Examples are ones with Belladonna lilies and specific varieties of orchids, which are exquisite enough to stand alone.
In addition to plant materials, the author also employs non-plant items for
accent. Examples are beeswax honeycomb candles and copper wire.
This book is lushly illustrated with color photos, some of which are presented in two-page spreads.
Throughout this title are little boxes with quick and handy tips. At the end of the book, the author discusses the floral techniques that are used in the designs.
