The theme for this year’s National Nurses’ Week is strength, commitment and compassion. The celebration starts from May 6-12, 2006. I would like to commend all the nurses all over the world for their dedication, timeless commitment, and priceless compassion that they have contributed to this noble profession. The journey continues the legacy that was laid by dedicated women most especially Florence Nightingale where her compassion resonates throughout the ages. In nursing profession is where you will find the art and science of study complements each other to make this a profession of caring that is unique and noble.
This is my 29th year as a nurse and in my journey, I have met many people who have influenced my vision, my commitment, and my dedication to this profession. This profession, has helped me to develop my sensitivity to others, embellished me with pride, joy, and compassion to become what I am today. I have friends and patients that I share my memories with all around the world from regions as far off as the Philippines, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Arabian Gulf, and to all over the United States. I hope that somewhere in the future, I will rejoin you all and cherish all the beautiful experiences, the fun, the sharing and caring moments that I have had with you all.
For all my colleagues and friends, most especially to all the staff in the Mother-Baby Unit, Labor and Delivery, and NICU at New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens and in all other departments, my friends at the City Hospitals in New York City, at Long Island-North Shore Health Systems, and The Visiting Nurses’ Service, I salute you all. Continue to gather all the wonderful memories and experiences throughout your journey as nurses and continue to support our nursing profession.
