Practice Makes Perfect When Traveling Around DC

Practice Makes Perfect When Traveling Around DC

Anyone who has tried to navigate around Washington, DC, can tell you traffic congestion can be a nightmare. But the alternative modes of transportation can be very confusing and so equally terrifying, especially for someone not used to riding buses and other forms of public transport. The problem can be especially frustrating for independent seniors who have always relied on their personal automobile for transportation.

Some bright button in Fairfax County realized that all an uninitiated transit user needed was a little training to help familiarize them with the system. Once new riders know what to expect, they find it easy to navigate a course to their desired destination. Enter Seniors Travel Training.

Broadcasting on Channel 16, the Senior Travel Training program follows a local senior from his home in Herdon, Virginia, to Union Station in Washington, DC. In doing so, the program teaches seniors how to navigate various modes of transportation in and around the Washington, DC, metropolitan region. The program emphasizes how easily seniors – especially those who are new public transportation system users – can master any local transportation system. Senior Travel Training also reminds viewers that the Fairfax County Department of Transportation is available to help any senior who would like to participate in the travel training program.

Senior Travel Training airs on Channel 16 at the following times –
Sunday at 9 p.m.
Thursday at 10 a.m.
Saturday at 7 p.m.

Senior Travel Training can also be seen via computer at the above days and times with Live Video Streaming.

For more information, contact the Fairfax County Department of Transportation at 703-324-1100.
