Kid Friendly Apple Recipes

Kids young and old can help prepare meals in the crock pot. Apples are the perfect ingredient to create some fun, tasty, and easy treats for the whole family.

Slow Cooker Apple Pie

Ingredients:

• 10 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced

• 4 teaspoons of cinnamon

• ½ teaspoon of nutmeg

• 1 cup of milk

• Ύ cups of sugar

• 2 eggs

• 2 teaspoons of vanilla

• 1 ½ cup of Bisquick mix (or similar mix) divided: 1 cup and ½ cup

• 2/3 cup of brown sugar

• 3 tablespoon of butter

Directions:

1. Peel and slice the apples (make sure there is adult supervision if kids are helping prepare).

2. In a large bowl, mix apples, cinnamon and nutmeg.

3. Spray slow cooker insert with a non stick cooking spray.

4. Pour apple mixture into crock pot.

5. Mix milk, butter, vanilla, and ½ cup of the Bisquick mix.

6. Spoon the mixture over the apples.

7. Combine 1 cup of the Bisquick mix with the brown sugar.

8. Sprinkle over the entire contents in the crock pot.

9. Cook on low ofr 6-7 hours or until apples are soft.

On a side note:

Anytime you are using Bisquick or similar mix, take a few extra minutes and make some fun dough for your kids. Simply add enough milk to one cup of mix (you want it to be moist but not too runny) and let your kids make their own creations with the dough. Add a little food coloring, and you’ve got instant play dough!

Slow Cooker Baked Apples

This recipe is one that I created after receiving dozens of fresh apples from my mother-in-law. I originally cooked this recipe on the stovetop, however, I found out it works just as well in the slow cooker.

Ingredients:

• Four apples washed, but unpeeled

• 4 teaspoons of cinnamon

• 3 tablespoons of brown sugar

• 4 small boxes of raisons

Steps:

1. Spray the inside of your slow cooker with a non stick cooking spray, such as Pam.

2. Core each apple (you can use a small knife if you don’t have a corer)

3. Fill each apple with a combination of raisons, brown sugar, and cinnamon, in whatever order you’d like. Use as much or as little of these ingredients as you want. A little cinnamon goes a long way!

4. Place apples in your slow cooker.

5. Add one cup of water.

6. Cook on high for three to four hours.
