Bob Dylan already has a Grammy and an Oscar. If he'd ever been in a play, they'd probably have thrown a Tony at him before he left the stage. Put a crown on him and most of us would vote for him for Miss America. The Pulitzer, however, is something that is normally associated with its literature and journalism prizes. But, as with any prize, they've found a way to give one to Bob Dylan.
The Pulitzer awarded to Dylan is a special music award for his overall contribution to popular music. His impact on the genre, on the culture of America and his poetic lyrics were all cited as reasons for the award. They did not mention his singing voice.
This Pulitzer Prize is the first to reward someone for creating rock n' roll. Previous music prizes have gone to, you know, not classic rock. The award is an honorary Pulitzer, but is a Pulitzer nonetheless. There has been no report about whether Donovan Leitch will be given this award in the future.
