What is Twitter?
Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that allows Twitter users to send and receive messages. Twitter messages are known as “tweets,” and are up to 140 characters long. Each Twitter user has a profile page where their “tweets” are displayed. Tweets can be public (open for all to read), or users can keep their Twitter messages closed to only their own “followers.” Since Twitter is a social networking service, it’s possible for other Twitterers to “follow” you or other subscribers. Twitterers who follow others are known as “followers.”

Twitter is free service and is used by major organizations such as the American Lung Association, and by regular people who would like to share their thoughts with the world.

What is Twitter used for?
First and foremost Twitter is a place where people can connect and share all kinds of information. Twitter has also become a popular place to use for marketing, sharing news, and personal thoughts.
